In Pursuit of Your Passions

Are you living with a level of frustration that gnaws at you?  In your mind's eye you can envision where you want to be and what you want to do.  Your dreams and passions are there, but just beyond reach.
Take a step back to get to the future.  Go back??  Shouldn't I be heading forward?

Well, it's not quite like going backward. It's more of a strategy of looking at where you ultimately want to be and backing up to where you currently are, then determining how to get to the desired goal.
Take for example a dear friend of mine:  She has a dream of writing her own book.  She has ideas on what the book is to be about, and has played around in her mind with the setting and characters for the book.  The challenge in fulfilling this dream has been having the time to work on it!

She knows what she wants to do, it is just how to get there that is the snag.  In a recent conversation we had, she told me about her decision to get up an hour earlier in the morning to devote that time on her book.  For my friend, mornings are her most alert and creative time of the day, so she decided to use that time to her advantage and consistently use the early, quiet mornings to make headway on her book.
This is an example of taking a step back to get to the future.

A personal exercise for advancement:

If you seriously want to achieve your dreams and passions, I highly recommend doing the following exercise…

I want to be __________.  (fill in the blank with your dream/passion)
I am here. (write down where you currently see yourself—your season in life)

These are the steps I need to take to get to my future. (Write down one or two action steps you can start within the week that will get you a step or two closer toward fulfilling your dreams and passions.)
A personal note:  Success comes through manageable, bite-sized habits that propel you toward your future dreams and passions.  In other words, if I am at a "one" and I want to get to a 'ten", I don't jump to an "eight."  I have to work up the scale one number (level) at a time.

For my book writing friend, she has not holed herself away from society for a month to write this book that would be impractical for her.  Instead, she has decided that the bite-sized, manageable habit she needs to incorporate in her busy day, is to get up one hour earlier at least five days a week and work on the book.
Maybe you have achieved part of your dream and have started working for yourself.  Good for you! More than likely that is only the beginning of your dreams and aspirations.  Where do you want your eco-friendly business to take you?  Do you have a passion to serve your community?   How will you get there?  I hope the exercise above helps you to continue pursing your passions and dreams!

Achieving your dreams and passions will not happen overnight or magically be achieved at a certain age in life.  Reaching your aspirations will happen through steps taken over time that build on each other.
